A trio of films on personal struggles

Ce Magnifique Gateau/Marc James Roels, Emma de Swaef/ Beast Studio Belgium
Visually rich, the film offers five narratives set in colonial Africa in the late 19th century telling the stories about a troubled king, a middle-aged Pygmy who works in an upscale hotel, a failed businessman who goes on an expedition, a lost porter, and a young army deserter.

Oh Willy / Emma De Swaef & Marc Roels/ Beast Studio, Belgium
Willy, middle-aged and lonely, returns to the nudist colony where, as a boy, he lived with his mother. She is on her deathbed and Willy has come to say goodbye. Memories, sights and feeling that he has repressed all these years come flooding back. (16.40 min.)

Agouro (A Sign from Heaven)/ David Doutel, Vasci Sa
The medium – oil paints on glass – is rare. Two men live a lonely life in a hut by a frozen lake. They are cousins, but very different. Relationships become strained until…the tale of a moral dilemma and a stark decision.
